Filed. Now where is the refund?
Once your return shows Filed above, the clock moves to the IRS. Here is the honest timeline, so you never have to wonder.
Within 24 to 48 hours
The IRS accepts or rejects the e-filed return. We monitor this and contact you if anything needs fixing.
Within about 21 days
Most e-filed refunds with direct deposit arrive inside 21 days of acceptance. EITC and Additional Child Tax Credit refunds are legally held until mid-February.
Check it yourself, anytime
The official tool is IRS Where’s My Refund (or the IRS2Go app). Have your SSN, filing status, and exact refund amount. It updates once a day, overnight.
Amended returns
Track those at IRS Where’s My Amended Return. They can take 16 weeks or more; that is the IRS, not your preparer.
If the IRS tool says your refund was sent and it has not arrived after 5 business days (direct deposit) or several weeks (mailed check), contact our office and we will help you run a trace.
How long until the IRS accepts my return?
E-filed returns are usually accepted or rejected within 24 to 48 hours. Accepted means the IRS has your return, not that the refund is approved yet.
When will my refund arrive?
The IRS issues most e-filed refunds with direct deposit within 21 days of acceptance. Returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit are held until mid-February by law.
Where do I check my IRS refund?
Use the IRS Where's My Refund tool or the IRS2Go app. You need your Social Security number, filing status, and exact refund amount. It updates once a day, usually overnight, so checking more often does not help.
What about my state refund?
Florida has no state income tax, so Florida filers have no state refund to track. If we filed other state returns for you, each state has its own refund lookup site; someone from our office can point you to the right one.
My amended return shows no status. Is that normal?
Yes. Amended returns take up to 3 weeks to appear in the IRS Where's My Amended Return tool and can take 16 weeks or more to process.
